Golf Enthusiasts are not Forgotten in the 1000 Islands

In an area known for its magnificent scenery and sweeping views, it’s not surprising that it also boasts some of Ontario’s most scenic courses. With more course options than you could shake a club at, the question won’t be: if you can squeeze in a round of golf, it’ll be how many do you have time for!

Gananoque Golf & Country Club

Established in 1921, the Gananoque Golf & Country Club is located just outside of the West Gates of Gananoque, less than 10 minutes from the heart of downtown on Highway 2. The golf club is open to visitors and offersg rates for both adult and youth golfers!

This 9-hole, par 35 course is constructed around the natural formations of the region, complimenting and enhancing the challenge of the course, with granite outcroppings and unique tee off requirements. There are two different play options – choose between a 9 hole or 18 hole play. After you play, relax down by the waterfront on their beautiful outdoor patio with a snack and beverage from the clubhouse. It’s a fantastic place to recap how you did while you watch the boats go by.

Greene Acre Golf Club

Located off Highway 32 right outside of Gananoque, you’ll find the expansive greens of the Greene Acre Golf Club. Sitting on 131 acres beside the Gananoque River, the course was constructed in 2002 from unused farmland and an abandoned sand quarry that is complemented by the natural beauty of the area. The club is open to the public, with rates for adults, youth, families and couples as well group discounts available!

Enjoy a day on their 9-hole course, or take advantage of their practice facilities with the iron only driving range and the separate putting green to hone your chipping and putting skills. The course is fully licensed, so you can grab a drink to enjoy while you play or you can kick back and relax after a game on their fully licensed patio and snack bar.

Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course

Located on the 1000 Islands Parkway just 9 km east of Gananoque this 18-hole championship Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course, caters to seasoned golfers and amateurs alike. Additionally, with nine-hole historic courses complementing practice greens and driving ranges, the 1000 Islands golf experience extends beyond the last tee.

The course is an inspiring blend of nature and design. The generous fairways and gently contoured greens set in a pristine forest environment are inviting and enjoyable. Brilliant white sand bunkers, refreshing river breezes and dramatic elevation changes add excitement to every round. Enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner after your round at the fully licensed Smuggler’s Lounge, with lots of cocktails and pub favourites on the menu to enjoy after a day on the course.

Thousand Islands Country Club

Those with their passport handy will find a golfing island treasure with the Thousand Islands Country Club, located on Wellesley Island, New York. In the game since 1894, the club has some of the most amazing views of the St. Lawrence River from its home on one of the islands that gives the region its name. The Island is accessible via car using the Thousand Islands Bridge that connects Canada to the United States.

This 36 hole course is open to the public and includes sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River from each of the courses. Pick between the 18-hole “Old Course”, constructed in 1894 and is one of the oldest courses in the United States, or the newer 18-hole “Lake Course”. The club is fully outfitted with a marina with boat rentals available, six pickle ball courts and a fully licensed restaurant to indulge in after a day on the green. An island getaway complete as a golfer’s paradise!
